The Kiwanis Club of New Kingston (KCNK) is excited to bring the popular Primary & Prep school spelling Bee competition to young learners with the KCNK Little Bee Game. This educational app, sponsored by Grace Kennedy Money Services (GKMS) and Western Union (WU), is designed for kids aged 4 to 9 and offers three engaging modes to learn spelling: two learning modes and a competition mode.
The game can be enjoyed offline, making it perfect for learning on the go. Each mode features 10 levels, with words increasing in difficulty as you progress. Every level includes at least 15 words to master, and the words remain consistent across all modes.
In the Settings, students can personalize their experience by entering their name, age, parish, and school. They can then choose between Learning Mode 1, Learning Mode 2, or Competition Mode.
Learning Mode 1 helps students learn spelling by tapping each letter from left to right. The app audibly pronounces each letter, allowing children to practice along. Mistakes can be corrected by tapping on them, and the word can be replayed by tapping the little bee icon at the top left. Students must spell each word correctly to advance and complete all words in a level before moving on.
Learning Mode 2 challenges students to arrange jumbled letters into the correct word. Like Mode 1, mistakes can be undone, and words can be replayed. Correct spelling is required to progress through words and levels.
Competition Mode adds an exciting twist with jumbled letters and extra letters thrown in. Students are timed for each word, aiming to complete levels as quickly as possible. Ten random words are selected from each level's pool, and the leaderboard displays the time taken for each level.
Players can reset the game from the Settings page and should wait for each letter to be fully called before selecting the next. Both students and parents are encouraged to take screenshots of the leaderboard to share with teachers.
