Mahjong School is your destination for learning to play Mahjong. We focus on teaching Japanese-style Mahjong, which closely resembles the European (Riichi) and US Mahjong variations. While it differs slightly from Chinese, Hong Kong, or Taiwanese styles, mastering Japanese Mahjong makes it easy to transition to other regional versions.

Mahjong School offers three methods to help you learn Japanese Mahjong.

1 The Mahjong calculator.

Click to add tiles to your hand or declare TING, CHOW, PON, or CHI to form winning combinations. Configure various conditions including DORA and self-draw options. Once set, the calculator computes your hand's Fu and points, providing detailed descriptions including hand names.

2 The simplified tutorial.

This tutorial displays all Han values, complete with example hands and explanations.

3 A practice mode.

Play Mahjong directly against AI opponents. Our beginner-friendly AI is perfect for Mahjong learners. Practice remains the most effective way to master Mahjong.
