"Capcom Revives Breath of Fire IV on PC, 25 Years Later"

by Carter May 06,2025

Breath of Fire IV, the beloved role-playing game from Capcom, has been resurrected on PC, a full 25 years after its initial release. Originally launched on the PlayStation in Japan and North America in 2000, and in Europe the following year, the game saw a PC port in Europe and Japan in 2003. The narrative centers on Ryu, a protagonist who possesses the unique ability to transform into a dragon, as he and his band of warriors strive to thwart an emperor's malevolent plans to destroy the world.

As part of its ongoing Preservation Program, GOG has meticulously updated Breath of Fire IV to ensure compatibility with modern PCs. This DRM-free release on their platform includes full optimization for Windows 10 and 11, with both English and Japanese localizations. The visual experience has been enhanced with an upgraded DirectX renderer, offering new display options such as Windowed Mode, V-Sync, Anti-Aliasing, and refined gamma correction for superior visuals. Additionally, the audio engine has been improved, restoring previously missing environmental sounds and providing new configuration options to enhance the auditory experience.
