Every Avowed Background, Listed

Avowed offers five distinct Backgrounds, each providing unique dialogue options and a starting weapon. While the starting equipment is basic, all Backgrounds can utilize any weapon or ability throughout the game. Here's a breakdown:

Arcane Scholar: Hailing from Bragganhyl Academy, your scholarly past and published treatise on soul lineages led to conflict with a local lord, resulting in your recruitment by the Emperor. Expect dialogue options reflecting your knowledge of the occult, law, history, and poetry.

Court Augur: A tragic past involving misinterpreted visions and a failed harvest led to accusations of witchcraft, forcing your escape to Highcrown. The Emperor recognized your mystical abilities, making you their personal mystic. Expect dialogue reflecting your spiritual connection and insight. This background is ideal for players envisioning a wizard-like character.

Noble Scion: Born into wealth and influence, your family's downfall due to scandal propelled you to seek the Emperor's favor. As a loyal ally to the Empire, expect dialogue options reflecting your noble lineage and position.

Every Background’s Starting Weapon in Avowed

Each Background begins with a common-quality, one-handed melee weapon. These are easily replaceable as you progress, so prioritize the Background that best suits your roleplaying desires. All starting weapons are located near a shipwreck during the "On Strange Shores" quest.
