The highly anticipated reboot of the Narnia series, helmed by Greta Gerwig, known for her work on the blockbuster hit "Barbie," has added acclaimed actress Carey Mulligan to its stellar cast. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Mulligan joins a talented ensemble that includes former James Bond actor Daniel Craig, "Sex Education" star Emma Mackey, and the legendary Meryl Streep.
Gerwig, who will both write and direct this new adaptation, is bringing her unique vision to C.S. Lewis' beloved fantasy series, "The Chronicles of Narnia." The upcoming film will focus on the prequel novel, "The Magician's Nephew," which unfolds before the events of the iconic "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe."
Carey Mulligan, celebrated for her numerous awards and nominations including Oscars, BAFTAs, and Golden Globes, will portray Mabel Kirke, the mother of the story's young protagonist, Digory. Daniel Craig will take on the role of the film's titular magician and Digory's uncle, while Emma Mackey will depict a younger version of Narnia's notorious White Witch. Meryl Streep lends her voice to the majestic and god-like lion, Aslan.
This isn't the first time Narnia has been brought to life on the big screen. A previous trilogy released between 2005 and 2010 adapted the first three Narnia books: "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe," "Prince Caspian," and "The Voyage of the Dawn Treader." These films featured Tilda Swinton as the White Witch and Liam Neeson voicing Aslan.
Gerwig's latest endeavor follows her success with the 2023 "Barbie" movie, which not only became a surprising box office sensation but also garnered eight Academy Award nominations, winning for Best Original Song. Starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling, "Barbie" set a high bar for Gerwig's next project.
"The Chronicles of Narnia: The Magician's Nephew" is scheduled to hit theaters in 2026, promising a fresh and exciting take on the classic tale under Gerwig's direction.
