The Witcher 4 Beta Test Invite Scam
CD Projekt Red Issues Warning
The Witcher 4's developer, CD Projekt Red, has alerted the gaming community about a widespread beta test invite scam. On April 16, they took to The Witcher’s official X (formerly Twitter) account to clarify that any invitations to a beta test for The Witcher 4 are fraudulent.
Their statement emphasized, "We've been taking the necessary steps to take this fraudulent messaging down. That said, if you receive any invites to or stumble upon news of one, we kindly ask you to report the scam using the tools available to you in your email client or the social media platform you are using."
CD Projekt Red reassured fans that any future legitimate beta tests would be announced through their official channels, including social media and their website.
First Revealed in December 2024
The Witcher 4 made its debut at the Game Awards in December 2024, accompanied by a trailer showcasing Ciri as the new protagonist. This shift from Geralt, who has led the series through its first three installments, sparked significant discussion within the fanbase.
In an interview with VGC, The Witcher 4 Narrative Director Phillipp Weber addressed the fan reactions to Ciri taking the lead role. Weber, a fan of Geralt himself, understands the community's attachment but is confident in the team's vision. He stated, "The best thing that we can do, and I think this is really our goal, is to prove that with Ciri, we can do a lot of interesting things so we can really make it worth it because this decision to have Ciri as a protagonist wasn’t made yesterday, we started making this a very long time ago."
Executive Producer Małgorzata Mitręga expressed appreciation for the fans' support and their passionate feedback. He remarked, "Everyone has the right to have an opinion, and we do believe it comes from the passion for our games and I think the best answer for that will be the game itself when the game is released."
The developers are aiming to make The Witcher 4 the most ambitious entry in the series, introducing new regions and monsters. The game is slated for release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, though a specific release date has not yet been announced. Stay tuned to our updates for the latest news on The Witcher 4!
