Keep Your Guard Up

Xu Wu is a highly agile adversary in *Monster Hunter Wilds*. Its unpredictable movements and ability to blend into the environment due to its black skin make it a tricky opponent. The creature's multiple arms and tendency to disappear into walls and reappear from the ceiling, particularly in its nest, demand heightened awareness. Always be on guard when fighting in this area to avoid its surprise attacks from above.

Use Ice Attacks

Leveraging Xu Wu's vulnerability to Ice is key. Whether you're using ranged attacks like Ice ammo or melee weapons, equipping gear that inflicts Ice elemental damage will give you an edge. Enhance your equipment with a Frost Jewel for the Ice Attack skill, and consider carrying a Frost Pod to deal additional Ice damage during combat.

Avoid the Grab Attack

Xu Wu's arsenal includes a dangerous grab attack, which can immobilize you and prevent the use of your regular weapons. You have a brief window of about two seconds to escape. Using your slinger, particularly with Frost Pods, is an effective way to break free and continue the fight.

Attack Xu Wu’s Mouth

The mouth of Xu Wu is its most vulnerable spot, though it's challenging to target as it's located beneath its body. Seize the opportunity to attack when Xu Wu dives towards you. A successful hit can deal substantial damage and potentially break its mouth, rewarding you with Xu Wu’s fang. If the mouth is out of reach, aim for the head, which is also highly susceptible to blunt, cut, and ammo damage.

Use Poison

Xu Wu has a significant weakness to Poison, making it an ideal status effect to exploit. A bow with Poison Coating can be particularly effective in applying this ailment. While other status effects can be used, steer clear of Sleep, as it's less impactful against this monster.

Capturing Xu Wu requires strategic timing. Once you've reduced its health to 20 percent, deploy a Pitfall Trap or Shock Trap. Baiting the monster with meat or using yourself as a decoy can lure it into the trap. Quickly follow up with a tranquilizer shot to prevent Xu Wu from escaping. You must act swiftly, as the window to secure the capture is brief.

This guide covers everything you need to know about hunting and capturing Xu Wu in *Monster Hunter Wilds*. Keep your stamina in check as you face this agile creature.
