Hextech Chest Returns to LoL Following Fan Outcry

by Jacob Mar 26,2025

League of Legends is bringing back Hextech Chests following overwhelming fan feedback, signaling a significant update to the game. This move highlights Riot Games' commitment to listening to their community and making adjustments to enhance player experience. Dive into the details of this update and discover what's on the horizon for League of Legends.

League of Legends Reverses Unpopular Decisions

Hextech Chests Make a Return

In a recent developer update on February 27, 2025, Riot Games announced the return of Hextech Chests to League of Legends. The update, accompanied by a detailed video on their YouTube channel, came after the developers acknowledged that recent changes didn't meet the community's expectations. "Recently, we’ve made a number of changes that didn’t hit the mark for everyone. We’ve been listening to your feedback, and it’s clear that there are areas where we need to adjust," Riot stated.

Hextech Chests, a fan-favorite feature, were brought back due to their significance in making gameplay feel rewarding. "It’s clear that for many of you, Hextech Chests weren’t just a way to get stuff, they were an important part of making your time in League feel rewarding. We didn’t fully grasp how much this mattered to you, and that led us to make changes that missed the mark," explained Riot. Starting with patch 25.05, players can earn up to 10 chests and keys per act, with 8 available through the free pass and 2 more obtainable via the Honor system.

Exalted Mordekaiser and More Adjustments Based on Feedback

Riot Games also shared news about the delay of the Exalted Mordekaiser skin and the entire Exalted skin line. The developers are taking additional time to ensure these skins deliver on their core fantasy, which means fans won't see a new Exalted skin in every Act this year as initially planned.

In response to further fan feedback, Riot is making several additional changes. One of the non-Prestige skins will be replaced with 25 Mythic Essence, addressing the community's concerns about the lack of Mythic Essence on the paid Pass and the saturation of champion skins for each seasonal theme. Additionally, Riot is lowering the Blue Essence cost for all champions by 50% starting with patch 25.05, enhancing accessibility for players.

Another significant reversal involves Clash. After previously announcing plans to run Clash events less frequently, Riot has decided to revert to a monthly schedule. The upcoming March Clash event will feature ARURF, followed by a regular Summoner's Rift Clash in April.

Blue Essence Emporium and Your Shop Return

Responding to player requests, Riot is also bringing back popular in-game shops. Your Shop and the Blue Essence Emporium will return for their first runs of the year, scheduled for patches 25.06 and 25.07, respectively.

Riot Games emphasized their ongoing commitment to refining and improving League of Legends based on continuous player feedback. "We know getting League to the right place isn’t about just one set of changes. It’s about continually refining and improving the game in ways that make it better. We think today’s updates are an important step, and we’ll keep tracking how these changes feel, talking with all of you about how things are landing, and making adjustments," they stated.

Riot's responsiveness to their community underscores their dedication to creating a game that resonates with their audience. League of Legends remains available for free-to-play on PC, and you can find the latest updates and information on our dedicated League of Legends page.
