"Hollow Knight: Silksong Steam Update Hints at 2025 Release"

by Michael May 07,2025

Following Microsoft's casual mention of Hollow Knight: Silksong in an official Xbox post, excitement has surged due to backend changes to the game's Steam listing, hinting at a possible re-reveal and release in the near future. As observed across various online platforms, including social media, Reddit, and Discord, the Steam metadata for Hollow Knight: Silksong was updated on March 24. According to SteamDB, these updates include an opt-in feature for the game on GeForce Now, Nvidia's game streaming platform, along with changes to assets and the legal section of the Steam store page, now citing the copyright as Team Cherry 2025, instead of 2019.

These developments suggest that something related to Hollow Knight: Silksong could be imminent, possibly indicating a 2025 release. With Nintendo's Switch 2 Direct scheduled for April 2, fans are eagerly anticipating updates and might not have to wait much longer for news.

It's been six years since the announcement of Hollow Knight: Silksong. Although there have been occasional updates, long stretches of silence from Team Cherry have kept fans on edge. January was particularly active for the community, with cryptic social media posts from a developer sparking intense speculation about a potential re-reveal during the Switch 2 Direct, and even a possibility of the game launching as a timed exclusive on Nintendo's next-generation console.

It's important to recall that when Hollow Knight: Silksong was first announced, Team Cherry confirmed its launch platforms as Windows, Mac, Linux, and Nintendo Switch. Moreover, it's one of the most sought-after titles for Game Pass, following Microsoft's agreement with Team Cherry to include Silksong in its subscription service from day one.

In June 2022, Microsoft included Hollow Knight: Silksong in its Xbox-Bethesda Showcase, promising that all featured games would be playable within the next 12 months. This seemed to confirm that the highly anticipated sequel would be released within a year.

However, in May 2023, Team Cherry announced a delay for Hollow Knight: Silksong beyond the first half of 2023, stating that more details would be forthcoming as the release date approached. At the time, Team Cherry's marketing and publishing lead, Matthew Griffin, stated, "We had planned to release in the first half of 2023, but development is still continuing. We're excited by how the game is shaping up, and it's gotten quite big, so we want to take the time to make the game as good as we can."

As the sequel to the critically acclaimed 2017 game Hollow Knight, Silksong carries immense expectations and remains one of the most wishlisted games on Steam. In IGN's review of Hollow Knight, we praised its world, saying, "The world of Hallownest is compelling and rich, full of story that's left for you to discover on your own, and built with branching paths that offer an absurd amount of choice in how you go about discovering it. With such a high density of secrets to find and fun, challenging enemies to face, it's worth spending every moment you can in Hollow Knight."
