Marvel Rivals Rank Reset Mid-Season Proves Too Controversial, Prompting Reversal

Discover the latest updates on Marvel Rivals' player rank system and other exciting changes coming to the game after the developers listened to community feedback.

Marvel Rivals Backtracks On Their Player Rank Reset

Dev Talk 11 Updates on Seasonal Rank Adjustments

Marvel Rivals has made a significant reversal on their plans for mid-season player rank resets following widespread fan backlash. The official Marvel Rivals Twitter (X) account recently announced this change, rolling back the decision made in Dev Talk 10.

Originally, the game's update suggested that players' ranks would reset every 45 days, dropping them down four divisions. This proposal was met with criticism from the community, who felt it was demotivating, particularly for those striving to advance through the ranks.

In response, Dev Talk 11 confirmed that there will be no mid-season rank resets. Players will keep their scores and ranks at the end of the first half of the season. However, a full reset at the end of the season will still occur, with players dropping six divisions.

Human Torch, The Thing, And Other Updates Still On The Way

Despite the change in the rank reset policy, Marvel Rivals continues to roll out other exciting updates. The eagerly awaited heroes, Human Torch and The Thing, are set to join the roster, bringing the total number of playable characters to 39. NetEase Games has committed to introducing two new characters per season, which lasts for three months.

Additionally, rewards for players reaching Gold rank and above will remain unchanged. Those who achieve Gold rank or higher will receive a free Invisible Woman costume, while those at Grandmaster rank and above will be awarded Crests of Honor. At the end of the season, players who reach Gold rank will also receive another free costume, and those at Grandmaster rank and above will earn additional Crests of Honor.

While balance adjustments are expected post the mid-season update, specific details about these changes have not yet been disclosed.

The swift response to community feedback highlights Marvel Rivals' commitment to their player base. Mere hours after the initial announcement in Dev Talk 10, the developers responded with Dev Talk 11, demonstrating their willingness to listen and adapt.

Marvel Rivals emphasized their dedication to improving the game, stating, "We strive to make Marvel Rivals the best game it can be, and the community is the driving force behind this mission! [...] Your engagement and support mean the world to us, and we're excited to continue this journey together!"

The next Marvel Rivals mid-season update is scheduled for February 21, 2025. The game is currently available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Stay updated with the latest news on Marvel Rivals by visiting our dedicated page.
