Monster Hunter Wilds' Day-One Patch: A Massive Download for Enhanced Gameplay
The highly anticipated Monster Hunter Wilds has launched alongside a surprisingly large day-one patch. Clocking in at a hefty 18GB, this update is crucial for optimal game performance. Initially released for PlayStation 5, Capcom will likely roll it out across all platforms soon. Unfortunately, official patch notes detailing the changes are currently unavailable.
Speculation points to the inclusion of high-resolution textures, a feature notably absent from review copies. This would account for the update's substantial size, as high-resolution assets require significant storage space. The patch may also incorporate PS5 Pro enhancements, aligning with Capcom's confirmed PS5 Pro support for the game at launch. Improved performance for console players is a likely outcome.
Bug fixes are another anticipated component. While Capcom has strived for perfection, some bugs remain, and addressing them in the initial patch is standard practice.
While termed a "day-one" patch, pre-orders may allow early access to the download. Players with slower internet connections should prioritize installing the patch before February 28th to ensure a smoother launch experience.
It's important to note that this patch (version 1.000.020) is primarily focused on optimization and bug fixes, not new content. Substantial additions will arrive via post-launch DLC. Three paid DLC packs are planned, alongside two free content updates. The first free update, scheduled for spring, will introduce Mizutsune and event quests. Further content, including new monsters and missions, is expected in the summer.
Monster Hunter Wilds launches on PC and consoles February 28th.
