Nintendo’s Latest Announcement
Not a Switch 2, but Alarmo
Nintendo's interactive alarm clock, Alarmo, is set to reach a broader audience with its expanded release in March 2025, as shared via the company's Twitter (X) account.
In just a couple of months, Alarmo will be available at select retailers worldwide, including Target, Walmart, GameStop, and other Nintendo-affiliated/approved stores. This move will make Alarmo more accessible as the requirement for a Nintendo Online membership will be removed, allowing anyone to purchase this innovative device for $99.99 USD.
While fans are thrilled about Alarmo's wider availability, the rumor mill continues to churn with speculation about the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2. However, Nintendo has remained silent on this front, keeping fans eagerly awaiting any official news.
Nintendo Alarmo Sold Out A Day After its Announcement
The demand for Alarmo was immediate and overwhelming. Just one day after its announcement on October 9, 2024, Nintendo reported that the device had sold out across Japan, leading the company to switch to a lottery system for sales through the My Nintendo Store, exclusively for Nintendo Switch Online subscribers.
"We have received an overwhelming number of orders for the Nintendo Sound Clock Alarmo, released on October 9th, and have temporarily suspended sales on the My Nintendo Store. We are preparing to transition to a lottery sale system for Nintendo Switch Online subscribers. We apologize for any inconvenience and are committed to producing more units to meet demand."
In New York City, Alarmo also sold out on the same day, with the store promising updates on restocking without implementing a lottery system.
Nintendo Alarmo Features
Alarmo, introduced by Nintendo in 2024, is not just any alarm clock. It features sound effects from beloved games such as Super Mario Odyssey, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Splatoon 3, and more. With 42 scenes to choose from initially, and promises of free updates including scenes from Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Alarmo offers a unique waking experience.
Upon setting an alarm, a character from your chosen game will appear on the screen. When the alarm sounds, the character gently wakes you with soft sounds. If you linger in bed, a "visitor" appears, and the sound escalates to encourage you to rise. Alarmo's motion sensor allows you to silence the alarm simply by moving, without needing to touch the device.
Beyond its alarm function, Alarmo adds ambiance with hourly chimes and sleep sounds themed to your selected scene. It also tracks your sleep patterns, monitoring your time in bed and movement during sleep.
For those sharing a bed with others or pets, Nintendo recommends using Alarmo's Button Mode. Originally requiring a Nintendo Online membership, this feature will be accessible to all with the expanded release in March 2025.
