Unexpected Update Causes Issues for The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered on PC
PC players of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered encountered unexpected troubles following a surprise update released today. Bethesda has acknowledged the issue and assured players that a fix is forthcoming.
The update, which was rolled out without any accompanying patch notes, was meant to address backend tweaks, according to Bethesda’s official support page. However, it appears to have caused more harm than good, particularly for those who purchased the game via the Microsoft Store. Players have reported significant problems, including the loss of upscaling options such as DLSS and FSR, resulting in diminished performance and visual quality.
Yoooo why would @virtuosgames push an update to Oblivion Remastered that removes all upscaling right before the game's first weekend?!!?

One Reddit user shared their frustration, stating, "Can't change the upscaling methods anymore. It's set to ‘off’ and while the arrows are clickable nothing happens. So I closed the game, disabled fluid motion in the NVidia app (was testing something before the patch came) and started the game again. Loading times for my save are long again and still can't change upscaling settings lol. Now I am stuck with 40-60 fps in high settings with a 5800X3D and a 5080. Nice patch :D"
While the impact on performance varies among players, many have expressed concerns about low frame rates and the inability to adjust upscaling settings, which has notably affected the gaming experience ahead of Oblivion Remastered’s first weekend in players’ hands.
Bethesda has responded to the outcry by clarifying that any graphic settings adjusted prior to the Microsoft Store hotfix should still function normally. However, players are currently unable to adjust these settings due to an issue with the settings UI. The team is actively working on a resolution and promises to provide updates as soon as possible.
In the meantime, players on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X | S appear to be unaffected and can continue enjoying the game without issues.
