Pokémon TCG Pocket Players Blown Away After Discovering Some Cards Reference Iconic Game Boy Locations

by Isabella Mar 18,2025

Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket players are discovering delightful hidden details in the game's card art, connecting the illustrations to the classic Game Boy games. The excitement began when Reddit user asch_win highlighted that the Spearow card features landmarks resembling Celadon City Department Store and Route 16 from Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen. These aren't random placements; the card art cleverly recreates the Spearow's in-game habitat.

This intentional referencing of iconic locations isn't limited to Spearow. Reddit user jteede uncovered further connections, such as a Diglett card situated near Vermillion City and a Haunter card near Lavender Town's tower. asch_win also revealed location references within several Supporter cards.

While many card illustrations depict Pokémon in fantastical settings, some, including a Pikachu variant, are recognizable real-world cards. Others are unique to Pokémon TCG Pocket, adding to the mystery and delight of discovering these Easter eggs.

The community is actively searching for more hidden references. Recent discoveries include the S.S. Anne on a Gyarados full-art card, and a story arc featuring Oddish, Venonat, and Bellsprout cards, mirroring a scene from FireRed and LeafGreen’s seaside Snorlax location.

Since its October release, Pokémon TCG Pocket has received one additional booster expansion, Mythical Island, bringing the total to four. More expansions are expected, with additional cards periodically added through Wonder Pick Events and updates. As Creatures Inc. and DeNA continue to release cards spanning generations, players are encouraged to remain vigilant in their search for further references.

Meanwhile, players can participate in the current Wonder Pick event featuring Charmander and Squirtle, and explore the ongoing discussion regarding the impact of pack choice on card rarity.
