Securing your shelter in the zombie-infested world of Project Zomboid requires more than just finding a place to hide. Effective base defense is crucial, and barricading windows is a key element. This guide shows you how to create basic, yet effective, window barricades.
How to Barricade Windows in Project Zomboid
To board up a window, you'll need a wooden plank, a hammer, and four nails. Once you've gathered these materials, simply right-click the window you wish to secure. Your character will automatically begin the process. Each window can accommodate up to four planks for enhanced protection.
Finding the necessary supplies is relatively straightforward. Hammers and nails are typically found in toolboxes, garages, sheds, and closets. Wooden planks are commonly located at construction sites, or can be salvaged by dismantling wooden furniture like shelves or chairs in a pinch. Administrators can utilize the "/additem" command to spawn items directly.
Barricaded windows significantly hinder zombie access. The more planks you add, the more time it takes for them to break through. To remove planks, right-click the barricade and select "Remove." Note that you'll need a claw hammer or crowbar to do so.
Larger furniture items, such as bookshelves or refrigerators, are ineffective as window barriers; characters and zombies will simply pass through them. However, knowing how to move furniture remains a useful skill for interior arrangement.
While wooden planks provide a solid starting point, more advanced barricades using metal bars or sheets offer superior protection, but require sufficient Metalworking skill.
