Shrek 5 has unveiled its new cast and a teaser trailer, prompting even Movie Sonic to offer design advice. In a humorous TikTok video, the official Sonic Movie account shared a side-by-side comparison of Sonic's original, poorly-received design and his subsequent, much-improved redesign, subtly suggesting Shrek's new look could benefit from similar attention.

IGN's exclusive first look at the 2018 live-action Sonic the Hedgehog movie generated mixed reactions, with fans focusing on the character's unusual teeth, physique, small eyes, and human-like fingers. Director Jeff Fowler responded to the criticism by redesigning the character, resulting in a significantly more positive reception.

While the response to Shrek's new look isn't as intensely negative as Sonic's initial design, Sonic's playful advice has amused fans online. Initially announced in 2016, Shrek 5's development remained quiet until 2023 when Chris Meledandri, CEO of Illumination, confirmed its progress and hinted at a potential Donkey spin-off. Universal Pictures shifted Shrek 5's release date from its original slot to December 23, 2026, making way for the Minions 3 release.
