The Steam FPS game, Fortune's Run, faces an indefinite delay due to its creator's three-year prison sentence. Currently in early access, the game's development is completely halted. This isn't a typical Steam game delay caused by financial or technical issues; instead, the sole developer's incarceration presents a unique obstacle.
Prior to this news, Fortune's Run enjoyed positive reception on Steam, boasting a "Very Positive" rating and praise for its retro art style and gameplay. However, future updates are now significantly delayed. While many games have overcome prolonged development hurdles, Fortune's Run's future remains uncertain.
Developer Dizzie revealed the prison sentence in a January 14th Steam update. While the specific crime remains undisclosed, Dizzie acknowledged a violent past preceding the game's development. This situation, though unusual for game development delays, highlights the unpredictable nature of the industry. The game's original team member departed after a medical complication and disinterest in further development, leaving Dizzie as the sole developer.
Development will remain paused until Dizzie's release in February 2025. The game's Steam page still targets a 2026 release from early access, a goal now highly improbable. Despite this setback, Dizzie expressed confidence in completing the game upon release from prison. Players can continue enjoying the existing early access version, and numerous other early access shooters on Steam offer alternatives during the unforeseen delay.
