World of Warcraft's Feast of Winter Veil: A Lore-Filled Holiday Celebration
World of Warcraft's annual Feast of Winter Veil event, a festive in-game celebration mirroring Christmas, returns with fresh rewards and activities. This year's festivities include new items, collectible drops, and gold. A new lore video, a collaboration with PlatinumWoW, delves into the rich history of this beloved holiday.
The video explores the origins of Winter Veil, weaving together Dwarven myths of Greatfather Winter – a Titan-forged giant who brings the snow – and Tauren traditions of reflection, renewal, and gratitude to the Earthmother. The video also highlights the rise of Smokeywood Pastures, a Goblin enterprise that has commercialized the holiday, adding a humorous, real-world parallel to the event.
A Hilarious History: Metzen the Reindeer
No discussion of Winter Veil would be complete without mentioning Metzen the Reindeer, named after former Blizzard executive Chris Metzen. This unfortunate reindeer has a history of kidnappings, having been abducted by pirates, Dark Iron Dwarves, and even the Grinch! The video concludes with a fittingly funny thank you from Metzen, voiced in Thrall's iconic tone (a nod to Metzen's voice acting).
PlatinumWoW's Continued Collaboration
This isn't PlatinumWoW's first collaboration with Blizzard. Previous projects include lore videos on Nerubians, Vrykul, the Scourge, World Trees, and Blackrock Depths. This partnership reflects Blizzard's increasing engagement with content creators, alongside collaborations like Taliesin & Evitel's guides and Hurricane's cinematic trailers.
