"Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2 Mod Adds 12-Player Co-Op, Raid Missions Coming"

The modding community for Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 has been thriving since the game's record-breaking release last year. Their latest achievement, spearheaded by the renowned modder Tom, also known as Warhammer Workshop, is truly groundbreaking. Tom, the mastermind behind the Space Marine 2’s excellent Astartes Overhaul, has just released a 12-player co-op mod that promises to redefine the gameplay experience. The footage showcases multiple players engaging a Tyranid Trygon Prime in an epic battle that feels like an MMO boss fight.

This development is remarkable, especially considering that the vanilla version of Space Marine 2 only supports up to three-player co-op. With the backing of developer Saber Interactive, the modding team has not only surpassed this limit but is also setting their sights on enhancing the game further.

“Honestly, I’m just kind of in awe of Saber’s support for the modding community,” Tom shared with IGN. “None of us expected 12-player PvE sessions to be possible this soon — but somehow, here we are. Thanks to their generosity and trust, this huge leap forward is finally here, and it completely changes what we can do.”

It’s important to note that the current 12-player co-op mod is still in the testing phase. Although it functions well, it significantly disrupts the game's PvE balance, which is understandable given the increased number of players facing the Tyranids and the Thousand Sons.

However, with 12-player co-op now a reality, modders are developing additional features to capitalize on this new capability. Tom revealed to IGN that the team is working on various modes such as prop hunt, PvP within operations, extensive updates for the upcoming official horde mode, and thrilling raid-style missions with formidable bosses and innovative mechanics.

The Space Marine 2 modding community has expanded significantly, boasting around 20,000 active members in their main Discord server.

“As both a modder and a player, it’s hard not to be excited,” Tom added. “Huge credit as always to the Saber team for not just making all this possible, but continuing to drop amazing content of their own too, without any of the usual predatory battle-pass nonsense we take for granted in modern titles.”

Could this 12-player co-op mod offer a glimpse into what we might expect from Space Marine 3? The future looks bright for Space Marine 2, with the eagerly anticipated horde mode on the horizon, a new class in development, and additional Operations maps and weapons. Saber Interactive recently unveiled details about Patch 8, confirmed some horde mode mechanics, and introduced the new map.

With Space Marine 3 officially in development, the success of Space Marine 2 comes as no surprise. The announcement of Space Marine 3 promises "large-scale battles that are even more spectacular," hinting at a potential increase in co-op player count.
