Nonograms, also known as Hanjie, Griddlers, Picross, Japanese Crosswords, Japanese Puzzles, Pic-a-Pix, "Paint by numbers," and other names, are engaging picture logic puzzles. In these puzzles, you color or leave blank cells in a grid based on numbers provided at the grid's edges, which unveil a hidden image. These numbers represent discrete tomography, indicating the count of unbroken lines of filled squares in each row or column. For instance, a clue like "4 8 3" signifies sets of four, eight, and three filled squares, separated by at least one blank cell.

To crack these puzzles, you must decide which cells to fill (called boxes) and which to leave empty (called spaces). Identifying spaces is just as crucial as filling boxes, as spaces later guide the placement of clues (continuing blocks of boxes linked to numbers in the legend). Solvers typically mark confirmed spaces with a dot or a cross.

Guessing is a no-go in Nonograms. Only cells determined by logic should be filled. A single guess can lead to a mistake that spreads across the entire puzzle, spoiling the solution.
