Assassin’s Creed Shadows Character Will Be Played by One Piece Star Mackenyu Arata

Ubisoft's upcoming Assassin's Creed Shadows, launching this March, welcomes Mackenyu Arata, star of Netflix's "One Piece," to its voice cast. Mackenyu will lend his talents to the role of Gennojo, a pivotal character in the game's Feudal Japan setting.

Known for his portrayal of Roronoa Zoro in the live-action "One Piece" series, Mackenyu will voice Gennojo in both English and Japanese. Ubisoft describes Gennojo as a key figure who assists the protagonist in eliminating a critical target.

"Gennojo is a captivating blend of charm and recklessness, a complex individual wrestling with inner conflict and driven by guilt to reform a corrupt system," Ubisoft reveals. "He's a charismatic rogue, a master of deception, and a witty trickster, always walking a precarious line. His deep-seated desire for justice, particularly in protecting the vulnerable, fuels his willingness to risk everything to achieve his goals."

While the exact timing of Gennojo's appearance remains undisclosed, his significance to the game's narrative is confirmed. Mackenyu himself notes that Gennojo belongs to a group called the "Shinobi League" and can be considered a recruitable companion, joining the player on their journey.
