**Players & Cards**
Designed for three players, **Tong-Its** uses a standard Anglo-American deck of 52 cards, excluding jokers. The card rankings within each suit are as follows: Ace (1 point), 2-10 (face value), Jack, Queen, King (10 points each).
**Objective**
The goal is to form sets and runs through drawing and discarding, aiming to minimize the points of unmatched cards in your hand. A run is three or more consecutive cards of the same suit (e.g., ♥4, ♥5, ♥6 or ♠8, ♠9, ♠10, ♠J), while a set is three or four cards of the same rank (e.g., ♥7, ♣7, ♦7). Note that an Ace is considered low and cannot be part of a run with King and Queen.
**The Deal**
The dealer is chosen randomly for the first game, and subsequent dealers are the winners of the previous hands. Cards are dealt counterclockwise, with the dealer receiving 13 cards and the other players receiving 12 each. The remaining cards form the stock, placed face down.
**The Play**
Each turn involves three key actions:
- **Draw:** Start your turn by drawing a card from either the stock or the discard pile. If you choose from the discard pile, you must be able to form a meld with it and expose it immediately.
- **Exposing Melds:** Optionally, you can expose valid melds (sets or runs) from your hand. To open your hand, at least one meld must be laid on the table. A special move allows you to lay down a set of four face down if not drawn from the discard pile, keeping the bonus for a secret set without revealing your cards.
- **Laying Off (Sapaw):** Optionally, add cards to existing melds on the table, whether yours or another player's. This action can prevent opponents from drawing from the discard pile on their next turn.
- **Discard:** Conclude your turn by discarding one card from your hand onto the discard pile, face up.
