Tute Cabrero is a beloved and strategic card game originating in South America. Played by 3 to 5 players, the game features a competitive free-for-all format where every player competes individually—there are no teams involved.
The primary goal in Tute Cabrero is to either accumulate the most points or the fewest points, depending on the variant being played (commonly referred to as "ir a más" or "ir a menos"). In this unique twist, the second-place finisher is considered the loser, adding an extra layer of tactical depth to each round. The game is played using a standard 40-card Spanish deck, which gives it a traditional feel distinct from other card games.
Here’s how the cards rank, from highest to lowest value:
- Ace – 11 points
- Three – 10 points
- King – 4 points
- Knight – 3 points
- Jack – 2 points
- 7, 6, 5, 4, and 2 – No point value
During gameplay, the first card played in a trick sets the lead suit. Each player must follow that suit if possible. If a player cannot follow suit, they may play any card from their hand. The trump suit holds the power to win the trick. When no trump cards are played, the highest card of the leading suit wins the trick.
