Assassin's Creed Games Ranked: A Tier List

The latest addition to Ubisoft's renowned series of stealth-action open-world games, Assassin’s Creed Shadows, has finally arrived. With over 30 games released under the Assassin’s Creed banner, the focus here is solely on the mainline entries, excluding mobile, side-scrolling, VR, and spin-off titles such as Bloodlines or Liberation.

The journey began in 2007 with Desmond Miles entering the Animus to experience the life of his ancestor Altaïr, and it now continues in 16th-century Japan with players controlling Naoe and Yasuke. Assassin’s Creed Shadows marks the 14th installment in this core series. I’ve taken the liberty of creating a tier list based on my personal enjoyment of each game, and you can view it here:

Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag remains the game closest to my heart, blending island exploration, ship combat, and a vibrant cast to offer what I consider the quintessential AC experience. It shares the S-tier with Assassin’s Creed 2, the title that truly propelled the series to fame. In the A-tier, you'll find Valhalla, which might surprise some due to its size, but I thoroughly enjoyed the Viking-inspired combat and the Orlog minigame. Joining it is Unity, whose depiction of French Revolution-era Paris remains visually stunning even after a decade.
