Rare Mount Recolors Added to WoW, With a Twist

Summary

  • Blazing Royal Fire Hawk and Golden Ashes of Al’ar are exclusive Chinese WoW mounts, reimagined from rare drops.
  • These new mounts are obtainable through specific promotions in WoW China starting January 15.
  • Blazing Royal Fire Hawk features auspicious clouds while Golden Ashes of Al’ar pays homage to Kael’thas Sunstrider.

World of Warcraft is set to excite its Chinese players with the addition of the Blazing Royal Fire Hawk and the Golden Ashes of Al’ar mounts, available through two special promotions starting January 15. These mounts, exclusive to the Chinese region, are reimaginings of the highly coveted Pureblood Fire Hawk and Ashes of Al’ar, which were originally rare drops from raid bosses.

Following the successful reestablishment of the partnership between NetEase and Blizzard last year, which brought games like World of Warcraft, Diablo 4, and Overwatch 2 back to China, the game has been celebrating its return in style. This included the creation of a Lightforged Gorehowl statue and the introduction of the Xiao Liu pet with a teleportation feature.

The new promotion in WoW China introduces the Blazing Royal Fire Hawk and the Golden Ashes of Al’ar. The Blazing Royal Fire Hawk, reminiscent of the Pureblood Fire Hawk from WoW: Cataclysm's Firelands raid, features distinctive xiangyun or "auspicious clouds" in its wings, symbolizing peace, immortality, and good fortune—elements deeply rooted in Chinese culture for over 3000 years. Meanwhile, the Golden Ashes of Al’ar, a resplendent version of the Ashes of Al’ar from The Burning Crusade's The Eye raid, sports a sleek black saddle and includes flavor text that echoes Kael'thas Sunstrider's famous line: "The golden Al'ar, beloved pet of Kael'thas Sunstrider, proves that death is merely a setback."

New Chinese World of Warcraft Promotion Mounts

  • Blazing Royal Fire Hawk
  • Golden Ashes of Al'ar

The Blazing Royal Fire Hawk can be obtained through an event called the Treasure Workshop, though details about this event are currently limited. In contrast, the Golden Ashes of Al’ar is available through Landro’s Loot Box, which costs ¥200, approximately $27. Each box contains one of eight items, including other highly sought-after prizes like the X-51 Nether Rocket X-TREME and the Swift Spectral Tiger, a rare mount from the discontinued World of Warcraft TCG. Players can also form teams when purchasing these boxes, earning additional crates upon reaching certain spending milestones.

While there's no current indication that these mounts will be released internationally, it remains a possibility. Until then, players outside China can only admire these stunning mounts from a distance.
