Nintendo's Doug Bowser: Ample Switch 2 Supply for US

by Caleb Jan 12,2026

How challenging will it be to purchase a Nintendo Switch 2 in the U.S. at launch and throughout the rest of 2025? Doug Bowser, head of Nintendo of America, stated that the company is confident it will have sufficient stock to meet consumer demand "through the holiday season."

In an interview with IGN about the opening of the Nintendo San Francisco store, Bowser mentioned that while initial reaction to the Switch 2 has been "strong," Nintendo has a strategy to ensure a "steady supply of units" throughout 2025. The Switch 2 is scheduled to launch on June 5.

"Last week, [Nintendo President] Mr. [Shuntaro] Furukawa shared our forecast: 15 million units for the Nintendo Switch 2 and 4.5 million units for the Nintendo Switch during this fiscal year," Bowser explained.

"That forecast was designed to match the sales performance of the original Nintendo Switch in its first ten months. As we look at our U.S. operations, we are confident in our production and supply chain to meet consumer demand. Early pre-orders indicate strong positive feedback for the Switch 2, and we have a plan in place to maintain consistent product availability through the holiday period."

This is encouraging news for anyone looking to buy a Switch 2 in the U.S. this year. Pre-orders for the console have been challenging. Following a delay caused by tariffs, Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders began on April 24, with the console priced at $449.99—and the process unfolded just as anticipated. Meanwhile, Nintendo has alerted U.S. customers who pre-ordered through the My Nintendo Store that release date delivery cannot be guaranteed due to exceptionally high demand.

Bowser's recent comments, however, suggest that those who have secured a pre-order will likely receive their console. For additional details, check out IGN's Nintendo Switch 2 pre-order guide.

There has also been widespread discussion about tariffs and whether Nintendo might need to raise the price of the Switch 2 and its games in response. We asked Bowser how committed the company is to maintaining the Switch 2's $450 price at launch and beyond.

In his response, Bowser remained somewhat noncommittal, though he did indicate that Nintendo had "made a commitment" by setting the Switch 2's base price at $450 and the bundle with Mario Kart World at $500.

"We made a commitment when we announced the pricing: $449 for the standalone unit and $499 for the bundle that includes Mario Kart World," Bowser stated.

"We felt it was crucial to set that price, even after new tariffs were announced, to reassure consumers that they could purchase at that price point. Of course, the situation remains fluid, and it's difficult to predict what may happen in the coming weeks or months. Still, our goal is to explore every option within current or evolving market conditions to make our products, including the Nintendo Switch 2, as accessible as possible."
