11 Bit Studios Draws Parallels Between This War of Mine and The Alters

11 Bit Studios, the acclaimed Polish developer, has released a new trailer for their highly anticipated sci-fi adventure, The Alters, which is inching closer to its 2025 release date. Amidst the excitement, the studio took a moment to reflect on their iconic wartime survival game, This War of Mine, which garnered them global recognition over a decade ago.

While This War of Mine is renowned for its somber and despairing ambiance, The Alters introduces a more vibrant and often humorous narrative, focusing on the trials and tribulations of alternate versions of the protagonist, Jan Dolski. Despite these significant tonal shifts, the developers highlight a deep connection between the two games.

Though set in different worlds and offering distinct atmospheres, both titles share a core theme of survival. In This War of Mine, players must navigate the brutal realities of war within a besieged city, managing resources and facing daily challenges to keep their group of civilians alive. On the other hand, The Alters challenges players with a race against time, where they must continuously relocate their mobile base to escape an unforgiving sun that turns everything to dust.

Both games compel players to step out of their comfort zones, venturing into dangerous territories in search of scarce resources. The primary distinction lies in the protagonists: This War of Mine focuses on a group of diverse civilians, whereas The Alters introduces a unique team made up of alternate versions of the main character, Jan Dolski.

The Alters is slated for release in 2025 and will be available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Excitingly, it will also be accessible on Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass from day one, ensuring a wide audience can experience this innovative take on survival and identity.
