- Abyss of Dungeons, formerly known as Dark and Darker Mobile, continues forward with minimal changes beyond its rebrand
- The new title reflects Krafton’s strategic move to separate from Ironmace Studios amid ongoing legal disputes with Nexon
- Core gameplay remains unchanged, preserving the dungeon-crawling, loot-driven experience fans expect
Krafton has officially rebranded Dark and Darker Mobile to Abyss of Dungeons, marking a clear step back from its association with Ironmace Studios. While the name is the most visible change, it likely extends to the removal of any elements tied to Dungeons & Dragons intellectual property, though no alterations to gameplay have been reported.
The rebrand comes amid a prolonged legal battle between Nexon and Ironmace Studios, the developer behind the original Dark and Darker. Nexon alleges that former employees used confidential assets and ideas from their time at the company to develop the game—claims that remain unresolved in court. As the lawsuit continues, Krafton appears to be minimizing risk by distancing itself from any potential IP entanglements.
Despite the name change, Abyss of Dungeons retains the core mechanics that defined its predecessor: intense first-person dungeon raids, permadeath, and high-stakes PvPvE combat. The mobile version already distinguishes itself from the PC original with a third-person perspective and streamlined controls, but this rebrand doesn’t signal a shift in gameplay direction.
For fans, the change may feel bittersweet. While Abyss of Dungeons moves forward as a standalone experience, it also underscores the turmoil surrounding Ironmace. Still, with a soft launch scheduled for June 11th in Brazil, Thailand, Indonesia, and Mexico, the game remains on track for release.
