Renewed enthusiasm for a new Star Wars Battlefront game has gained momentum with support from Andor actor Muhannad Ben Amor.
Over the past month, players have returned en masse to 2017's Star Wars Battlefront 2 - achieving its highest Steam player count in years, despite DICE having ended official support long ago.
Ben Amor, who portrays rebellious hero Wilmon Paak in the acclaimed Andor series, recently joined the growing campaign for Battlefront 3 via social media.
"We need Star Wars Battlefront 3 immediately," the actor posted on Instagram (via Comicbook), revealing his impressive 469-hour playtime in Battlefront 2. "Started with Battlefront 2 back in the day - been with the series since launch," Amor continued. "Let's hope Battlefront 3 becomes reality."
The recent Battlefront 2 resurgence aligns with heightened Star Wars excitement surrounding Andor's climactic final season and May 4th celebrations.
After maintaining a modest average of 2,000 concurrent Steam players for years, the game has recently approached its all-time peak of 10,000 simultaneous players.
Does this resurgence indicate Battlefront 3 is imminent? Currently, DICE remains focused on developing its next major Battlefield installment. The studio plans to officially reveal its untitled Battlefield project, currently in player testing phases, later this summer.
DICE may remain cautious about revisiting the franchise following Battlefront 2's controversial loot box launch. However, public perception has evolved significantly since then. While EA no longer exclusively develops Star Wars games, Respawn Entertainment continues expanding the universe with an upcoming third Star Wars Jedi installment.
In a 2019 re-review, IGN noted: "Star Wars Battlefront 2 completes a redemption arc worthy of Star Wars lore. Today it stands as one of the most authentic and exhilarating Star Wars gaming experiences available."
