Atuel, the Award-Winning Documentary Game, Is Coming Soon to Android

Matajuegos is thrilled to announce the upcoming release of Atuel, their surrealist documentary game, launching on PC and Android later this year! Pre-registration is now open on Steam, with the Google Play store listing expected soon.

This Argentinian indie co-op's creation, initially launched on itch.io in September 2022, quickly gained recognition for its unique blend of documentary storytelling, experimental gameplay, and breathtaking, dreamlike visuals. Atuel's innovative approach earned it the prestigious IndieCade 2022 ‘Innovation in Experience Design Award,’ along with numerous other accolades. It's also been showcased at prestigious events like the Marché du Film in Cannes and the Smithsonian American Art Museum.

Exploring the Atuel River Valley: A Documentary Game Experience

Atuel immerses players in the stunning, yet climate-change-affected, Atuel River Valley in Argentina. More than just a game, it's an interactive experience where you transform into various animals and elements within the ecosystem, becoming intrinsically linked to the landscape. Soar through the skies as a bird, then flow as the river itself, experiencing the valley from unique perspectives.

The game features captivating real-life interviews with historians, biologists, geologists, and local residents, offering insightful perspectives on the region's history, current state, and its future under the shadow of climate change. Matajuegos collaborated with the international documentary team, The 12.01 Project, to bring these compelling stories to life.
