BioWare's Veilguard Director Departs Studio

by Olivia Feb 20,2025

Corinne Busche, director of Dragon Age: The Veilguard, is reportedly departing from BioWare, an EA subsidiary. Eurogamer reports her departure, expected in the coming weeks, follows her tenure as game director from February 2022 until the game's October 2024 launch. EA has yet to comment.

While questions remain regarding The Veilguard's commercial success—EA's Q3 2025 financial results, due February 4th, will offer further clarity—Eurogamer states Busche's exit is unrelated to the game's performance. BioWare itself confirms no DLC is planned for The Veilguard, with development focus shifting to Mass Effect 5.

Busche's BioWare journey began in 2019 after her contributions to various Sims projects at Maxis. Her directorship was crucial in navigating The Veilguard's final development stages, a process detailed in IGN's article, "How BioWare Finally Got Dragon Age to the Finish Line After a Tumultuous Decade," which highlighted the game's extensive development history, including a significant shift from a planned multiplayer title to a single-player RPG.

The news follows BioWare's August 2023 layoffs, affecting approximately 50 employees, including veteran narrative designer Mary Kirby. These cuts coincided with an EA restructuring and the transition of Star Wars: The Old Republic to a third-party publisher, ostensibly to allow BioWare to concentrate on Mass Effect and Dragon Age.

The Dragon Age franchise's journey has been eventful, from the initially poorly-received 2024 reveal trailer and the subsequent name change from Dreadwolf to The Veilguard, to ultimately more positive impressions. The future of the Dragon Age franchise, and whether BioWare will develop a sequel to The Veilguard, remains uncertain for fans.
