Capcom Hints at Resident Evil 9 in Fun Video Marking 10M RE4 Players

by Grace May 04,2025

Capcom has subtly teased the highly anticipated Resident Evil 9 in a way that's both clever and hidden in plain sight. In a celebration of reaching a monumental 10 million players for Resident Evil 4, the development team released a celebratory video on social media on April 25. The video features Ada Wong engaging in a secretive conversation with one of gaming's most iconic villains, followed by a scene where Leon is surrounded by an infected horde sporting party hats as they leisurely approach a church.

The video then transitions to a rock song, with Dr. Salvador amusingly playing his chainsaw as if it were a guitar. As the camera pans back, we see Leon enthusiastically fist-pumping. Behind him stands a rustic sign proudly displaying the words "Thank you for playing."

However, eagle-eyed fans noticed something intriguing when the sign is turned on its side: the boards form the Roman numeral "IX," which is 9. While it's tempting to dismiss this as a coincidence, the horror game leaker Dusk Golem points out that a lower plank, which would disrupt this formation, is missing in earlier parts of the video, suggesting it was intentionally added. This has sparked quite a bit of speculation among fans.

"I know what you did here," said one surprised fan, adding a wide-eyed emoji to their comment.

Capcom has also officially announced that the next mainline installment in the Resident Evil series, Resident Evil 9, will be directed by Koshi Nakanishi, the director of Resident Evil 7. Nakanishi said at the time, "It was really difficult to figure out what to do after [Resident Evil 7]. But I found it, and to be honest, it feels substantial. I can't share any details just yet, but I hope you're excited for the day I can." While not confirmed, rumors suggest that the game may take place on an island inspired by Singapore.
