New Character Unveiled in Star Wars Episode 1: Jedi Power Battles

Aspyr's upcoming release of Star Wars Episode 1: Jedi Power Battles for modern consoles features a surprising playable character: Jar Jar Binks. A new trailer showcases Jar Jar wielding a large staff and employing his characteristically chaotic fighting style.

This updated version of the 2000 classic includes numerous enhancements beyond the addition of new characters. Features such as customizable lightsaber colors and cheat code support have been added to enhance the gameplay experience. The inclusion of Jar Jar Binks, however, is arguably the most noteworthy addition, adding a layer of unexpected fun to the already diverse roster.

The trailer highlights Jar Jar's gameplay, showing him engaging enemies with his staff and delivering his signature comical dialogue. While some fans may have envisioned a more dramatic portrayal (perhaps even a "Darth Jar Jar" interpretation), his inclusion remains a fun and unexpected twist. Jar Jar Binks will be available when Jedi Power Battles launches on January 23rd. Pre-orders are currently open.

Newly Revealed Playable Characters:

Beyond Jar Jar Binks, Aspyr has unveiled nine additional playable characters, with more promised:

  • Jar Jar Binks
  • Rodian
  • Flame Droid
  • Gungan Guard
  • Destroyer Droid
  • Ishi Tib
  • Rifle Droid
  • Staff Tusken Raider
  • Weequay
  • Mercenary

This expanded roster offers a diverse range of characters, including familiar faces like the Staff Tusken Raider and Rodian, alongside various droid types. The addition of multiple Gungans, including Jar Jar and the Gungan Guard, is a particularly interesting aspect of this update.

With the launch date fast approaching, fans eagerly anticipate experiencing these new additions to the game. Aspyr's track record with other Star Wars game re-releases, such as Star Wars: Bounty Hunter, suggests a potential for a well-executed and nostalgic update to Jedi Power Battles.
