The developers of Civilization 7 have hinted at the possible return of Gandhi, but this time as a downloadable content (DLC). Dive deeper to understand why Firaxis Games opted to exclude the iconic Indian leader from the initial lineup of Civilization 7!
Civ 7 Devs Consider Bringing Back Past Civilizations and Their Leaders
There's still a glimmer of hope for fans hoping to see Gandhi lead in Civilization 7. This revelation came during an insightful interview with IGN featuring Civ 7 lead designer Ed Beach on February 13, 2025. According to Beach, Gandhi's return could be on the horizon, albeit as a future DLC.
During the IGN interview, Beach shed light on the decision to leave out certain civilizations and leaders from the base game of Civilization 7. "So I would say we haven't forgotten about anybody who's been in our game before," Beach remarked. "Certainly civilizations, there's a lot of consternation right now about where's Great Britain or England, why aren't they in our game?"
The exclusion of Britain and India from Civilization 7 stems from the need to make room for new civilizations. "There're just too many popular choices and we always want to have a few fresh ones that sound really new and exciting to people," Beach elaborated. "So things are getting left behind, but we always are looking at the big picture, when we're going to bring leaders or civs into the fold. So there's hope for Gandhi, yet."
Given the extensive array of DLCs that were released for Civilization 6, it's reasonable to anticipate that Gandhi will eventually make his way into Civilization 7. However, the exact timeline for his return remains uncertain at this point.
