Stun the Monster
One of the most challenging aspects of fighting Ebony Odogaron in *Monster Hunter Wilds* is its incredible speed. It moves so fast that many players may find themselves constantly on the defensive. A great way to halt its aggressive attacks is by stunning the beast. Fortunately, there’s often a Flashfly nearby that you can trigger for an easy stun. Alternatively, crafting and using Flash Pods can also immobilize the monster, giving you precious time to plan your next move.
Bring Teammates
Taking on Ebony Odogaron alone can be a daunting task. You’ll likely spend more time dodging than attacking. To avoid this, bring teammates into the fight. Use SOS signals to call for help—other players might join, or if none do, NPCs can serve as effective shields. They’re excellent distractions, drawing the monster’s attention away from you. When it targets you, focus on evading until it shifts its focus back to them.
Pull Down Entangled Rocks
During the battle, Ebony Odogaron may enter an area where Entangled Rocks are suspended above. Using your slinger to drop these rocks can stun the boss for several seconds, though this tactic works only once per fight. Additionally, crafting Pitfall and Shock Traps allows you to immobilize the creature up to two more times, offering valuable opportunities to strike.
Beware of Dragonblight
In addition to its physical attacks, Ebony Odogaron can inflict Dragonblight in *Monster Hunter Wilds*. While not directly harmful, this status effect reduces your ability to build up elemental or status damage with attacks. To counter this, use a Nulberry or equip a decoration with Level 3 Dragon Resistance or Blight Resistance to stay in peak fighting condition.
Inflict Paralysis
A highly effective strategy against Ebony Odogaron is to inflict Paralysis. This status effect temporarily halts the monster, significantly easing the difficulty of the fight. If you manage to knock it down while it's standing over roots, it might become entangled, giving you extra time to deal heavy damage.
Aim for the Head
Ebony Odogaron’s primary weakness lies in its head, which has a 3-star vulnerability rating. Targeting this area allows you to deal maximum damage, although it also places you in harm’s way. If you prefer to play cautiously, aim for the forelegs or tail instead. While these areas deal less damage, they offer chances to break limbs and reduce the monster’s mobility.
How to Capture Ebony Odogaron in Monster Hunter Wilds
To capture Ebony Odogaron, deploy either a Pitfall or Shock Trap—but first, you must reduce the monster’s health to 20% or lower. Without weakening it sufficiently, the tranquilizer won’t work, and the beast will soon escape, forcing you back into combat.
