Krafton, the publisher behind inZOI, has responded to ongoing discussions about its declining Steam concurrent player numbers. The company emphasizes that as a single-player title, sales figures offer a more accurate measure of success.
The visually striking Sims competitor debuted strongly on Steam, reaching an all-time peak of 87,377 concurrent players. Krafton revealed that inZOI achieved remarkable sales of 1 million copies within its first week - marking the fastest sales milestone in the South Korean publisher's history. The game claimed the top spot on Steam's Global Top Sellers list (by revenue) just 40 minutes after launch. CEO CH Kim stated Krafton intends to develop inZOI into a long-term franchise IP.
However, inZOI's concurrent player count has steadily declined post-launch, with recent 24-hour peaks around 1,477 players. As reported by TheGamer, the game's peak concurrents recently fell below even The Sims 3's numbers on Steam.
When IGN reached out for comment, Krafton downplayed the significance of Steam concurrent metrics for a single-player game's success.
"inZOI maintains consistent sales growth," Krafton stated. "For single-player experiences, tracking sales spikes during major updates provides better performance insights than monitoring Steam's concurrent player numbers."
The industry-wide focus on Steam concurrents has sparked debate in recent years, with many developers arguing these figures don't fully represent a game's performance - especially for single-player titles.
Palworld developer Pocketpair's community lead John "Bucky" Buckley criticized the gaming community's fixation on "dead game" narratives in 2024. Similarly, Helldivers 2 production director Alex Bolle told IGN this April that Steam concurrents represent just one of many performance metrics.

Regarding Steam reviews, which significantly impact visibility on Valve's platform, inZOI maintains "Mostly Positive" overall ratings but shows "Mixed" recent reception. As an Early Access title, Krafton reminds players the game remains unfinished:
"Early Access represents just the initial phase of inZOI's development journey. Our team prioritizes player feedback to enhance features, improve performance, and refine the overall experience. We appreciate our community's support and will share exciting updates in coming months."
Krafton also announced inZOI's upcoming August releases on Mac App Store and Steam. The macOS version, optimized for Apple Silicon, utilizes MetalFX and Core ML to deliver Windows-equivalent performance.
