In a delightful break from the usual news about tariffs and Nintendo Switch 2 pricing, IGN had the chance to dive into the fun world of Mario Kart World at a Nintendo event in New York this week. The big reveal? The new Moo Moo Meadows Cow character can indeed indulge in a variety of foods, including burgers and steak.
For those not yet in the loop, Mario Kart World recently introduced the Moo Moo Meadows Cow as a playable racer, much to the delight of fans. The internet has been buzzing with excitement, spawning countless memes and fanart celebrating this once-background character's promotion to the main stage.
However, the announcement sparked a curious question among fans: Can Cow, whose species might be linked to beef production, eat beef herself? This intriguing dilemma was addressed in the Nintendo Direct 2 trailer, where Mario was seen enjoying a burger. The question remained: would Cow partake in similar fare?
Imagine if the cow gets a transformation costume.

At the Nintendo preview event, IGN confirmed that racers can indeed pick up various food items at Yoshi's diner locations across the courses, much like grabbing an item box. These food items include burgers, steak kebabs, pizza, and donuts. And yes, Cow can eat them all.

During our session, we observed Cow consuming a variety of items, including the much-discussed burger. While other racers transform upon eating these foods, Cow showed no visible effects. This raises questions: Is Cow simply enjoying the taste? Or could there be a hidden power-up from consuming these items that Nintendo has yet to reveal? Are these perhaps veggie burgers or plant-based meat alternatives?
IGN reached out to Nintendo for clarification, but as of now, we haven't received a response. It's likely due to their busy schedule at the New York event rather than the quirky nature of our inquiry.
Be sure to check out our preview of Mario Kart World, which includes a video featuring our new favorite racer, Cow.
