Cyberpunk 2077 Will Take Up 25% of Switch 2 Internal Storage, It's a 64GB Install

by Ethan May 18,2025

CD Projekt Red has announced that the install size for Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition on the Nintendo Switch 2 will be 64GB. This is notably smaller than the versions on Xbox or PlayStation 5, which range from 100-110GB. However, on the Switch 2, 64GB represents a significant 25% of the console's 256GB internal storage.

Cyberpunk 2077 is set to launch on the same day as the Nintendo Switch 2, June 5. Gamers can choose between a physical 64GB game card or a digital download from the Nintendo eShop. It's worth noting that while some new Switch 2 game cards will contain only a download key rather than the actual game, this is not the case for Cyberpunk 2077.

This raises concerns about how quickly the internal storage of the Switch 2 might fill up. The Switch 2 boasts a 256GB internal storage, a substantial increase from the original Switch's 32GB. However, with games like Cyberpunk 2077 requiring 64GB, and other titles like Tears of the Kingdom (which was 16GB on the original Switch) and the $80 Mario Kart World likely demanding even more space, storage could become an issue.

The solution to this problem lies in expandable storage. While the original Switch supported standard microSD, microSDHC, and microSDXC cards, the Switch 2 is designed to work only with microSD Express cards. This means that users will need to purchase new, more expensive memory cards to expand their storage. Fortunately, IGN's deals team has already identified the best prices on Switch 2-compatible microSD Express cards, ranging from 128GB ($44.99) to 1TB ($199.99) options from brands like SanDisk and Lexar. Some of these are already in high demand and temporarily out of stock on Amazon.

Nintendo is collaborating with SanDisk and Samsung to offer its own branded cards, which are likely to be pricier than third-party alternatives. The increased demand for microSD Express cards driven by the Switch 2 may encourage more manufacturers to enter the market, though it remains to be seen whether this will result in lower prices.
