The ghostly voices that have haunted Khazan will finally take form in the Trials of the Frozen Mountain level on Stormpass as the Blade Phantom. True to its name, this formidable opponent will challenge your ability to manage stamina and aggression with its relentless attacks. This is also your first multi-phase boss.
As the battle begins, you find yourself in a castle with floors flooded by a crimson liquid. The Blade Phantom's attacks include:
- A six-hit combo with four punches and two kicks, the second kick being delayed.
- A three-hit combo consisting of two punches followed by a downward kick.
- A four-hit combo starting with a right hook, followed by two kicks, and ending with a leaping kick smash.
- A three-hit combo with flashing punches, culminating in a grab that you need to dodge.
In addition to these melee attacks, the Blade Phantom can summon a giant hammer in The First Berserker: Khazan, which it slams down to cause damage and spawn red spikes in front of it. If it opts for a spear, prepare for a quick throw followed by a teleporting smash that you must avoid. When using a blade, it will unleash a swift six-hit combo. It can also vanish and dash around the battlefield before striking.
Mastering the timing of these attacks and effectively parrying or dodging will allow you to strike back and deplete its stamina, setting up a Brutal Attack. Continue this strategy until you reduce its health by about half, triggering the second phase.
Phase 2

The Blade Phantom kicks off this phase with four claw attacks, followed by a spear throw from above. Move away from the impact zone of the spear and brace for a leaping swipe. This is followed by three greatsword slashes and a final hammer smash.
Aside from the new claw attacks, the Blade Phantom largely repeats its previous moves in The First Berserker: Khazan, with the addition of a spear thrust and follow-up, and four to six sets of swift dual-wielding attacks. It also teleports more often. When wielding the greatsword, watch out for multiple slashes and the final Burst Attack, indicated by a red P-like symbol on the screen. Use Counterattack (L1/LB + Circle/B) to parry this successfully, restoring your stamina and leaving the boss vulnerable to further attacks.
Be sure to capitalize on opportunities to attack when the Blade Phantom's stamina is depleted, and only launch the Brutal Attack when the window is nearly closed. This maximizes the damage and eases your path to victory. Your rewards for defeating the boss include 8,640 Lacrima, Soul Eater gear items, a Shieldsman’s Ring, and Netherworld Mineral for crafting.
