Undertale creator Toby Fox has shared development updates regarding the testing phase for Deltarune Chapters 3 and 4. Learn about console testing progress and what players can anticipate.
Deltarune Console Testing Progresses Smoothly
Saves From Demo Will Transfer to Full Release
Through his official Bluesky account, Toby Fox updated fans about ongoing console testing for the upcoming chapters. While acknowledging remaining work, he confirmed stable progress.
"Console testing continues with fewer bugs now, but extensive work remains. (PS5 testing still pending)," Fox stated, adding that the team is implementing save file transfer functionality from the demo (Chapters 1-2) to the final release. "We recently acquired the required technology. Hoping this feature works as intended!"
With positive beta testing results, the anticipated 2025 release window (as confirmed by Fox) appears achievable.
Fox Teases New Character: Tenna
Despite the heavy development workload, Fox continues engaging fans through his signature online humor. Last week he shared:
"When I showed a new Deltarune minigame to family and friends, their unanimous reaction was: 'This looks like a cry for help from a delayed game developer.'" Fox clarified that his family meant this positively, while a friend reportedly laughed uncontrollably for ten minutes.
Some fans speculate this minigame might belong to Chapter 5, given Fox's 2024 statement that Chapters 3-4 content is complete. Deltarune is planned as a seven-chapter saga.
Fox further revealed: "The same friend who played Chapter 3 last year told me 'I miss Tenna' - probably the first person ever to say that!" Tenna is a mysterious character first appearing during Deltarune's 2022 Spamton Sweepstakes charity event. This confirmation hints at Tenna's debut in Chapter 3.
As the spiritual successor to Undertale (2015), Deltarune maintains many mechanics while introducing new characters and storylines. Players guide Kris, Susie, and Ralsei on their world-saving adventure.
