Choosing Your Path in Citizen Sleeper 2: A Class Comparison

At the outset of Citizen Sleeper 2, you'll face a crucial decision: selecting your character's class. Operator, Machinist, and Extractor each offer unique strengths and weaknesses. This guide helps you decide which best suits your playstyle.

Operator

The Operator begins with a bonus in Interface, foundational levels in Intuit and Engage, and lacks Engineer skills. Endure is unavailable for leveling. Their special ability allows a Stress increase to re-roll their lowest die.

While powerful later, the Operator can feel challenging early on. The Interface skill is valuable, but the re-roll ability isn't always a game-changer. Roleplaying-wise, the Operator offers broad versatility.

Machinist

The Machinist starts with a bonus in Engineer, base levels in Interface and Intuit, and no Endure. Engage is not levelable. Their ability trades Stress for a +2 bonus to their lowest die, also reducing Stress by 2 on positive outcomes. This bonus increases as the game progresses.

The Machinist proved highly effective in my playthrough. The ability to mitigate Stress is invaluable, especially considering Stress management is a core game mechanic. The starting skills are frequently needed, making this class a strong choice. Roleplaying-wise, this class appeals to players focused on the game's technical and mechanical aspects.

Extractor

The Extractor begins with a bonus in Endure, base levels in Engineer and Engage, and no Interface. Intuit is unlevelable. Their ability uses Stress to add +2 to the lowest die of their crew. This ability upgrades to further enhance crew rolls.

The Extractor's ability shines in managing crew members during Contracts. The starting Endure bonus is beneficial, given the game's frequent Endure checks. However, an abundance of crew members with Endure and Engage might lessen the impact of this class later. Roleplaying-wise, the Extractor suits players who prefer a more rugged, hands-on approach.

This comparison should assist you in selecting the Citizen Sleeper 2 class that best aligns with your preferred playstyle and character concept.
