Units with the Ecstasy trait gain an effect when their health drops to a certain level. Those marked with Cruelty benefit from damaging (but not destroying) enemy units. The Stimulation trait activates an ability when the unit is targeted by stratagems. Additionally, Combat Elixirs cause some cards to generate extra stratagems, enabling you to trigger their unique abilities!
