This guide explores the Volcano Forge in Stardew Valley, detailing how to enhance tools and weapons using Cinder Shards and various gemstones. The 1.6 update expanded forging options, including enchantments for the pan and innate weapon enchantments.
Obtaining Cinder Shards:

Cinder Shards, essential for all Volcano Forge functions, are obtained by:
- Mining Cinder Shard nodes (pink-orange specks) in the Volcano Dungeon.
- As drops from Magma Sprites (50%), Magma Duggies (40%), Magma Sparkers (50%), and False Magma Caps (50%).
- From fishing ponds with 7+ Stingrays (7-9% chance of 2-5 shards).
Cinder Shards, unlike gemstones, cannot be duplicated in the Crystalarium.
The Mini-Forge:
After achieving Combat Mastery, craft a Mini-Forge:

- 5 Dragon Teeth
- 10 Iron Bars
- 10 Gold Bars
- 5 Iridium Bars
It functions identically to the Volcano Dungeon forge.
Weapon Forging:

Weapons can be forged up to three times, each level requiring more Cinder Shards (10, 15, 20) and a gemstone:
- Amethyst: +1 Knockback per forge.
- Aquamarine: +4.6% Critical Hit Chance per forge.
- Emerald: +2/+3/+2 Speed per forge (cumulative).
- Jade: +10% Critical Hit Damage per forge.
- Ruby: +10% Damage per forge.
- Topaz: +1 Defense per forge.
- Diamond: Three random upgrades (10 Cinder Shards).
Optimal Weapon Upgrades:
Prioritize Emerald and Ruby for increased DPS, combining with Aquamarine or Jade for critical hit enhancements. For survivability (e.g., Qi Challenges), Topaz and Amethyst are beneficial.
Unforging Weapons:
To reset a weapon, place it in the left slot and select the red X. This recovers some Cinder Shards but not the gemstone. Enchantments remain.
Infinity Weapons:
Upgrade Galaxy Sword, Dagger, or Hammer into Infinity Weapons using three Galaxy Souls (20 Cinder Shards each). Forged upgrades and enchantments are retained. Galaxy Souls are obtained through Mr. Qi, Big Slimes (Dangerous Mines/Quests), Island Trader (late-season), and occasionally from Dangerous Monsters (after 50 kills).
Enchantments:

Use a Prismatic Shard and 20 Cinder Shards to randomly enchant tools/weapons. The effect is random and can be re-rolled.

- Artful: Halved special move cooldown.
- Bug Killer: Double damage to bugs, kills Armored Bugs.
