The Exit 8 has now made its way to Android, blending various intriguing elements into a unique gaming experience. Developed by Kotake Create and published by Playism, this $3.99 game introduces players to a walking simulator with a chilling twist, making every step you take feel fraught with uncertainty.
A Creepy Walking Adventure
In The Exit 8, you navigate an endless underground passageway reminiscent of a Japanese metro station. You find yourself caught in a loop where everything from the tiles and lights to the posters and the solitary man walking towards you repeats endlessly. The challenge lies in spotting anomalies—subtle changes like a poster with a new graphic, flickering lights, or even something as stark as a river of blood replacing the floor. The game's core mechanic revolves around noticing these changes and reacting swiftly.
If you detect something unusual, you must turn back. If not, you continue forward. The objective is to reach the eighth exit without making a mistake, which means correctly identifying and responding to eight anomalies in succession. Fail, and you'll have to start over.
The Exit 8 Lets You Soak in a Surreal, Unsettling Atmosphere
The game's design draws inspiration from the concept of liminal spaces and the Backrooms, with settings modeled after real Japanese metro stations such as Kiyosumi-Shirakawa Station in Tokyo. This influence is evident in the claustrophobic corridors and repetitive architecture, creating an atmosphere that is both surreal and unsettling.
The Exit 8 encourages active engagement with your environment, urging you to scrutinize every detail for signs of danger or reality distortion. The way it challenges your memory and perception ensures that each playthrough feels unique.
Originally released for PC in November 2023, The Exit 8 took about nine months to develop. It garnered 1.4 million downloads worldwide on Steam. Now available on mobile, you can download it from the Google Play Store.
