Exploring the Deep Woods: A Guide to Fields of Mistria

Since Fields of Mistria entered Early Access on Steam, the Deep Woods area has been marked on the town map. However, this location remained inaccessible until the game's March 2025 update. Here’s a detailed guide on how to access the Deep Woods and find Caldarus in Fields of Mistria.

How to Unlock the Deep Woods in Fields of Mistria

To unlock the Deep Woods, you need to break the Fire Seal and use the new Dragon’s Breath spell to burn through the vines that conceal the entrance. Start by collecting four items for the Priestess' Fire Seal altar located on Floor 60 of the mines: a Faceted Rock Gem, a Rockroot, an Emerald, and a Sealing Scroll. The first three items can be found between floors 50 and 59. To obtain the Sealing Scroll, you'll need to collaborate with Juniper and Balor.

To help Balor procure the Sealing Scroll, you must leave the following items in the bin by his wagon:

• x10 Silver Ingots
• x10 Rubies
• x10 Sapphires
• x10 Emeralds

Once you've met these requirements, speak to Balor again, and he'll inform you that the item will be available the next day. After obtaining the scroll, you can complete the offering at the altar.

Upon breaking the Fire Seal, you'll receive a warning from the mysterious mines Priestess to leave the area quickly before the Sealing Scroll traps you inside. As your health diminishes, Caldarus appears in his human form to assist you, then retreats to his temple in the Deep Woods to recover his strength. He leaves you with the Dragon’s Breath spell, which is essential for burning through the vines blocking the Deep Woods entrance.

To use Dragon’s Breath, equip it from the pause menu and activate it while standing in front of the Deep Woods entrance. This action will permanently unlock the Deep Woods and other previously inaccessible areas on the map.

How to Find Caldarus

After breaking the Fire Seal, you can locate Caldarus inside his temple within the Deep Woods. The temple is situated to the north of the Eastern Road on your map. To reach it, you'll need to use the Dragon’s Breath spell to access the area. Caldarus' exact location will be marked on your map, similar to other NPCs, and you'll find him in the northeast corner of the area.

To navigate to the temple, enter the Deep Woods, head right, and use your axe to chop down the stump blocking your path. Continue north until you reach the temple where Caldarus awaits.

Once the Deep Woods is unlocked, you can use the Dragon Statue on your farm to fast travel to the area and visit Caldarus at any time. The teleportation costs just 10 Essence, making it a convenient way to save time compared to traveling on foot or horseback.

You can also interact with Caldarus through his statue, albeit in spirit.
