Feral Interactive Releases Imperium Update for ROME: Total War

Exciting news for fans of the classic strategy game ROME: Total War on Android! Feral Interactive has just rolled out the massive Imperium Update, introducing a host of gameplay tweaks, control improvements, and quality-of-life features that promise to enhance your gaming experience. If you've been playing this gem since its Android debut in 2018, you're in for a treat with these new enhancements. And don't worry if you enjoy the standalone expansions, as Barbarian Invasion and Alexander will receive the same update next week.

What Does the Imperium Update Bring to ROME: Total War?

The Imperium Update brings some of the most celebrated features from Feral’s newer mobile titles, such as Total War: MEDIEVAL II and EMPIRE, directly into ROME: Total War. With the introduction of three new control options—Positioning Mode, Melee Mode, and Automatic Deselection—players now have enhanced command over their units, making battles more strategic and precise. The ability to tap and hold to move your army, agents, or fleets streamlines the gameplay, eliminating the need to manually drag paths.

Positioning Mode offers a new level of control, allowing you to fine-tune the placement of your units with a simple tap and hold. The Group Grid feature simplifies managing unit groups, thanks to its collapsible selection menu. Meanwhile, Melee Mode enables your ranged units to seamlessly switch to close combat when the situation calls for it.

One of the most significant changes is the Command Slowdown feature, which automatically slows the game during complex order issuance, giving you more time to strategize. Additionally, for the first time, keyboard and mouse support has been added for Android (and iPad) users, enhancing the gaming experience on larger screens.

The minimap has also seen a redesign, taking inspiration from MEDIEVAL II with smoother zooming and navigation capabilities. A new reset button on the minimap lets you quickly revert to the default view, making it easier to keep track of the battlefield.

The Imperium Update is now live and available for download via the Google Play Store for all ROME: Total War owners on Android. Keep an eye out for the updates on Barbarian Invasion and Alexander, which will be available next week.
