Formovie Episode One Hardware Review: Projection Excellence?

by Caleb May 27,2025

At Droid Gamers, we receive a diverse array of gadgets, but a projector is a fresh addition to our lineup. The Formovie Episode One, designed to stream mobile games on a larger screen, caught our attention as a promising piece of tech to review.

Positioned as an affordable option in a market where projectors often come with hefty price tags, the Episode One successfully meets its goal and more. Despite some minor drawbacks, it offers great value.

Upon unboxing, you'll find the projector, a remote (batteries not included), a power cable, and a manual. While it doesn't carry the weight of more premium projectors, its lighter build enhances its portability—tipping the scales at just three pounds, it's easy to take on the go.

However, those seeking extensive connectivity options might find the port selection lacking, with only one USB-A port, one HDMI port, and a single audio jack. This is understandable given its budget-friendly price point and should suffice for most users' needs.

In terms of performance, the Episode One holds its own, boasting 150 ISO lumens. While it's not the brightest or most powerful laser-based projector on the market, it performs admirably in darker settings. As expected, it struggled in bright sunlight during our tests, but excelled in dimmer environments.

We found that every film, TV show, and streamed game we tested displayed clearly. To achieve the best image quality, the projector needs to be at least 10 feet away from the screen. The sound output, however, is merely tolerable due to the in-built speaker's tinny quality. For a better audio experience, it's recommended to connect an external speaker to the Episode One.

The user interface is one of the best in its class. Its straightforward setup and user-friendly design make it easier to navigate than many higher-end projectors we've encountered.

Overall, the Formovie Episode One is an excellent entry-level projector. It may not excel in any single area, but it's a reliable all-rounder that meets the needs of most casual users effectively.
