'Forspoken' Struggles to Find an Audience on PS Plus

by Gabriella Jan 11,2025

Forspoken, despite its free PS Plus offering, continues to spark heated debate nearly a year after launch.

Even those accessing it for free are engaging in the same level of passionate discussion about its merits as those who paid full price.

The December 2024 PS Plus Extra and Premium lineup announcement revealed surprisingly positive player sentiment towards Forspoken (alongside Sonic Frontiers), with many expressing excitement.

However, a significant portion of those who tried the free version abandoned it within hours, citing poor storytelling and "ridiculous dialogue." While some appreciated the combat, parkour, and exploration, a common sentiment is that the narrative and dialogue significantly detract from the overall experience.

It appears that the PS Plus release isn't revitalizing Forspoken's reception; the game's inherent inconsistencies remain a major point of contention. In this action RPG, New Yorker Frey finds herself transported to the breathtaking yet perilous land of Athia. She must master newfound magical abilities to navigate this expansive world, defeat monstrous creatures, and overcome powerful matriarchs known as the Tantas, all in a desperate bid to return home.
