Get Geared Up: Unlocking Weapons in Hyper Light Breaker

by Matthew Feb 25,2025

Hyper Light Breaker boasts a diverse arsenal, and a well-rounded build hinges on acquiring strong weapons. While starting with basic equipment, exploration unlocks superior weapons tailored to your preferred playstyle. This game blends roguelike and extraction elements, impacting weapon acquisition.

Where to Find New Weapons

New gear is discovered by exploring Overgrowths. While exploration naturally yields loot, focusing on sword or pistol icons on the map directly leads to Blades (melee) and Rails (ranged) respectively. Blades offer unique movesets and abilities, while Rails feature diverse functionalities. Both come in varying rarities, with gold being the most potent. Rarity directly correlates with weapon stats, as is typical in loot-driven games.

Weapons found in Overgrowths can be stored in your personal stash using the Cache function instead of immediate equipping. Equip these weapons before embarking on subsequent runs by adjusting your loadout.

Obtaining New Starting Weapons

Beyond acquiring weapons during runs, new starting equipment is available for purchase from merchants at the Cursed Outpost. Initially, only the Blades merchant is accessible. Unlocking the Rails merchant requires sufficient materials to repair their shop.

Merchant inventories are limited but refresh periodically. If initial offerings are unappealing, revisit later for updated selections.

Weapon Upgrades

Weapon upgrades are performed at the Outpost merchants, but require unlocking the upgrade function by increasing merchant affinity. This is achieved by collecting Golden Rations, a rare resource found through exploration or cycle resets. Use Golden Rations judiciously due to their scarcity.

Death diminishes equipped weapon durability (represented by a bar under the icon), leading to eventual breakage with repeated failures.
