With the release of the Grand Theft Auto VI Trailer 2 and a significant update to its official website, fans eagerly awaited news on the launch platforms for the new release date of May 26, 2026. At the trailer's conclusion, the release date was showcased alongside the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S logos, confirming these consoles as part of GTA 6's initial launch. Notably, Trailer 2 was captured on a PS5, specifically highlighted as such, rather than the PS5 Pro.
This raises questions about the potential PC launch and the possibility of a release on the Nintendo Switch 2. Some fans hoped that the delay to May 2026 might prompt Rockstar and Take-Two to reconsider their strategy and opt for a simultaneous PC release. However, the absence of any PC mention in the trailer suggests that this may not be the case. This omission aligns with Rockstar's traditional approach to game releases, but in the current gaming landscape of 2025 and 2026, it feels somewhat outdated. Given the PC market's growing importance to a multiplatform game's success, GTA 6's initial exclusion from PC might be seen as a missed opportunity or even a strategic error.
In an interview with IGN in February, Take-Two's CEO Strauss Zelnick hinted at GTA 6's eventual PC release. He referenced the simultaneous launch strategy for Civilization 7 across consoles and PC but noted that Rockstar typically rolls out games across platforms sequentially. "Historically, Rockstar has started with some platforms and then historically moved to other platforms," Zelnick explained.
Despite Rockstar's history of delaying PC releases and their complicated relationship with the modding community, many fans hoped GTA 6 could mark a shift in their approach to PC gaming. While major Rockstar titles do eventually make it to PC, the timeline for GTA 6's PC release remains uncertain. Speculation ranges from a possible launch in Fall 2027, early 2027, or even a year later in May 2027.
In December 2023, a former Rockstar developer attempted to justify the delayed PC release of GTA 6, urging PC gamers to trust the studio's plan despite the controversial launch strategy.
The potential missed opportunity of not launching GTA 6 on PC simultaneously is significant. Zelnick highlighted that PC versions can account for up to 40% of a game's sales, and this percentage could be higher for certain titles. "We have seen PC become a much more and more important part of what used to be a console business, and I wouldn't be surprised to see that trend continue," he noted, also mentioning the upcoming new console generation.

As for the Nintendo Switch 2, its logo was absent from GTA 6 Trailer 2. While the capabilities of the Switch 2 remain unknown, its slated release of CD Projekt's Cyberpunk 2077 sparked some hope that GTA 6, which is set to launch on the less powerful Xbox Series S, could also make its way to Nintendo's next-generation console.
